ALEX PILKINGTON-KERR

Play Therapist

Flying Start Children's Therapy

Alex is an integrative play therapist with almost 20 years of experience working with young people. After many years in the classroom as a teacher, Alex returned to study when she recognised the increasing need for mental health support in children and teens.

She holds a Master of Child Play Therapy, specialising in directive and non-directive play therapy as well as family therapy. Alex’s special interests include therapeutic support for children and teens dealing with neurodiversity, anxiety, trauma, and emotional challenges. She follows the child’s lead in a strengths-based approach.

Alex is passionate about supporting families and parents, helping them navigate the complexities of raising children with diverse needs, and easing the feeling of isolation which often accompanies this.

Alex is a devoted mum to three young children, and a proud ASD mum. She understands first-hand the challenges faced by neurodiverse children and their families.

With a commitment to neuro-affirming principles and a wealth of experience working with students who are disengaged from school, Alex’s expertise and empathy creates a safe and nurturing environment for children, teens, and families, where they can explore their emotions, build resilience, and thrive.

She is a Certified Practicing Counselling member of Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation Australia (PACFA) and continuously pursues professional development to ensure her practice is based on the most recent research and evidence.
