Bike Riding Skills

Our Bike Riding Skills group is a supportive, fun, and inclusive program designed for children who already have basic bike riding skills, but want to build confidence and independence on their bikes. Guided by experienced therapists, this group focuses on developing the physical, sensory, and safety skills needed for successful bike riding in the community. Whether your child is learning to balance, improving coordination, or working towards the goal of riding safely to school, sessions provide structured practice, positive encouragement, and individualised support to help every rider feel proud, capable, and ready for the road ahead.

Goals include:

  • Develop balance, coordination, and gross motor strength

  • Improve postural control and endurance for sustained riding

  • Build motor planning and sequencing skills for starting, stopping, and steering

  • Support transitions from balance bike to training wheels or two wheels

  • Foster independence, confidence, and enjoyment in physical activity

  • Building awareness of road and path safety rules in community settings

  • Supporting emotional regulation and persistence when learning new challenges

  • Working towards personal goals, such as confidently riding to school or joining family/community rides

Families are asked to bring a correctly fitted bike and helmet, and adult participation is encouraged to support skill carryover at home.
